Charles River Associates (CRA) Senior Consultant Steven C. Salop Receives 2010 Antitrust Achievement Award from the American Antitrust Institute

BOSTON, Jun 28, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Charles River Associates (NASDAQ: CRAI), a worldwide leader in providing management, economic, and financial consulting services, today announced that CRA Senior Consultant and Professor of Economics and Law at Georgetown University Law Center Dr. Steven C. Salop has been awarded the 2010 Antitrust Achievement Award from the American Antitrust Institute (AAI). Albert Foer, President of the AAI, presented Dr. Salop with the award at the AAI's 11th Annual Conference on June 24, 2010 in Washington, DC. Jonathan Baker, Chief Economist with the Federal Communications Commission, and Carl Shapiro, Deputy Assistant Attorney General for Economics, Antitrust Division, US Department of Justice, described the accomplishments of Dr. Salop that warranted his selection by the AAI for its award. Dr. Salop's significant contributions to the economics literature and public policy in respect of strategic entry deterrence, raising rivals' costs, vertical foreclosure, refusal to deal, and exclusionary conduct were recognized.

Dr. Salop began working with CRA as a Senior Consultant in 1988 to expand CRA's work in antitrust and global competition economics. He helped to start up and expand CRA's office in Washington, DC. He also was a member of CRA's Board of Directors from 1998 to 2008. His consulting work at CRA spans the entire range of antitrust, and he specializes in mergers, joint ventures, and exclusionary conduct. He has written numerous articles in various areas of antitrust economics and law, including summary disposition, treble damages, and appellate decision-making, and his research has focused on various aspects of mergers and joint ventures, including market definition, partial ownership and cross-ownership interests, entry barriers, and efficiencies. Dr. Salop earned his Ph.D. in economics from Yale University. Before joining the Georgetown faculty, he worked at the Federal Trade Commission, the Civil Aeronautics Board, and the Federal Reserve Board.
